Get Connected With Windows 95/98/ME

Note:

  • This guide assumes that the ethernet card is already installed and detected by Windows 95/98.
  • If your ethernet card is not currently detected by Windows 95/98, run the Add New Hardware option in Control Panel, and be sure to answer Yes when asked whether Windows 95/98 should search for new hardware. Then follow the instructions given. Sorry, we can't help with hardware installations.

Installing network components


  1. Click on the Network option in Control Panel
  2. Click the Configuration tab, then Highlight IPX/SPX - Click on Remove
  3. Next highlight NetBEUI - Click on Remove
  4. then click Add.....

  5. In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, select Protocol then Add.

  6. In the Select Network Protocol dialog box, select Microsoft as a Manufacturer and TCP/IP as the Network Protocol. Click OK.

Configuring TCP/IP Settings


  1. In the Network option in Control Panel, click the Configuration tab. Find TCP/IP and your ethernet card's name and then click Properties.

  2. In Microsoft TCP/IP properties:
    • Click the IP Address tab.
    • Select Obtain An IP Address Automatically.

    • Click the WINS Configuration tab.
    • Select Disable WINS Resolution.
    • Click OK.
    • Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
