Get Connected With Windows 95/98/ME
Note:
- This guide assumes that the ethernet card is already installed and detected by Windows 95/98.
- If your ethernet card is not currently detected by Windows 95/98, run the Add New Hardware option in Control Panel, and be sure to answer Yes when asked whether Windows 95/98 should search for new hardware. Then follow the instructions given. Sorry, we can't help with hardware installations.
Installing network components
- Click on the Network option in Control Panel
- Click the Configuration tab, then Highlight IPX/SPX - Click on Remove
- Next highlight NetBEUI - Click on Remove
- then click Add.....
- In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, select Protocol then Add.
- In the Select Network Protocol dialog box, select Microsoft as a Manufacturer and TCP/IP as the Network Protocol. Click OK.
Configuring TCP/IP Settings
- In the Network option in Control Panel, click the Configuration tab. Find TCP/IP and your ethernet card's name and then click Properties.
- In Microsoft TCP/IP properties:
- Click the IP Address tab.
- Select Obtain An IP Address Automatically.

- Click the WINS Configuration tab.
- Select Disable WINS Resolution.
- Click OK.
- Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
